Living My Real Life

Gosh, do you believe it’s December already?  It feels like just yesterday we were putting away the Halloween decorations and now we are skyrocketing towards Christmas.

Another thing I can’t believe is that my son turns 20 today. Where did those 20 years go?

Seen here on his first day of pre-school at the ripe old age of three and last day of school when he was 18,he hasn’t really changed much in the last few of years.

OK, don’t laugh at the red hair and that terrible outfit. We both had rounder tummies back then too.

One thing I noticed when I looked at this photo was the bruises on (little) Jesse’s legs. That pretty much summons up his childhood.  Going like a bull at a gate and bumping into everything in his wake.

As a music student, he’s much more chilled out these days, so much so that we sometimes get frustrated with him for his laid back, casual manner. This is what he's up to these days. He's the one with all the hair.

Happy Birthday Jesse.

Christmas Gnome Cushion Tutorial

If you saw my Saturday roundup post a few weeks ago you would have seen the Gnome Christmas cushion that I spied at Overstock.  Well, this week, my desire to have one got the better of me but, instead of buying it, I hacked it and made by own.

I shared the pattern with you all.

Of course, this doesn’t really need to before Christmas, I could really enjoy this cushion all year around.

Personalize Wine Glass Charms

You know when your kids were little and they had birthday parties, you always had to write their names on their plastic cups? Well, I made the adult version - Personalized Wine Glass Charms which you can give to your guests – these also don’t have to be just for Christmas, if you made them in different colours they could work at any time of the year.  You could also try making them in different colours for different guests, especially if you have two guests with the same initial.

Around the Web

This week, I’ve noticed the endless chatter about Christmas, which has been really good to get me in the mood. I think this year, because I haven’t been going out to the shops much, it’s made it much harder to feel the Christmas spirit.

So, I’m here to share with you some of the things I’ve seen online with the hope that it will inspire you.

Karin made this cute chalkboard calendar.

And I loved Amy’s ideas about how to decorate for Christmas with thrift shop finds.

My Rustic House Blog

It’s so rustic, it just makes me want to curl up on the sofa beside it with a hot chocolate – are ya with me?

I haven’t yet decided on a wreath (or something else) for my front door and I spied this one from the Aspiring Home. It’s basically made from bows. Isn’t it wonderful?

The Aspiring Home

While I don’t like listening to Christmas Carols every day for the entire month of December (I feel sorry for those poor retail workers), I do enjoy playing them in the few days leading up to Christmas.

Emily from My Weathered Home has taken all of the stress out of finding the right songs by putting together a very helpful Christmas playlist. Check it out.

Finally, if you have a late teen or early 20s man in your life and are struggling to decide what to buy him, Jayne has written a comprehensive list here – she really did this for me!

Well, that’s about if for this week. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and find some sunshine or keep warm, depending where you live in the World. Me, I’ll be searching for sunshine and hopefully doing some planting.  I’m also planning another quick video tutorial for next week which I think you’ll like.  Stay tuned to find out what it is.
