I’ve been wanting to experiment with more ways to use memory wire and the revival of the cuff bracelet trend has given me the perfect opportunity.
This cuff is made from braided strands of memory wire. To be perfectly honest, it was actually a bit of a challenge – it’s just one of those projects where you need an extra hand.
Please note: This is not a beginner project – if you are new to working with memory wire I suggest that you try either the Licorice Allsorts Bracelet or the Breaking the Rules Bracelet.
If you would like to make this braided cuff bracelet, here’s what you’ll need.

As this is not a beginner project, I won’t explain the details of how to make a loop, etc.
Cut nine rounds of the memory wire 3cm larger than the loop.
Make a loop in one end of each piece of wire using the round nose pliers. Squeeze the loop with the chain nose pliers to ensure it is closed and make it less round.
Feed on the first three beads:
Use the diagram below to feed on the rest of the beads.
Finish with a repeat of the first three beads as above.
Trim the wire to 1cm longer than the beads. Ensuring there are no spaces between the beads, make a loop in the end and squeeze it shut like you did at the beginning.
Repeat two more times so that you have three centre loops in total.
The beads will overlap but this excess will be taken up when you braid the bracelet.
Make a loop in the end of the wire as you did with the centre loops.
Feed on 59 of the 4mm white AB vacuum beads.
Make a loop in the other end as before.
Repeat twice so that you have a total of three white loops.
These wraps will also overlap.
Make a loop in the end of the wire as you did with the centre loops.
Feed on 79 of the 3mm gold and vacuum beads, starting with a silver and alternating the colour.
Make a loop in the other end as before.
Repeat twice so that you have a total of three gold and silver loops.
These wraps will also overlap.
Cut two pieces of the 20 Gauge Wire about 5cm long.
Make a loop in one end of the wire.
Feed the components on alternating a gold or silver bead then a wrap as follows:
Repeat the step above, this time starting with a gold bead.
Repeat one more time, starting with a silver bead.
The last bead you feed on should be gold.
Make a loop in the end of the wire.
Make a loop in the other piece of wire and add a silver bead. Place that aside for later.
Separate the wraps into the three groups.
Cross the right hand group over the centre group.
Next, cross the left hand group over the centre group.
Repeat the last two steps twice.
Check to ensure that none of the wraps have twisted and they are all lying flat.
Feed the components on to the remaining piece of wire, alternating a bead and component like you did for the other end.
Make the final loop in the end of the wire.
