Five Minute Earrings - Red

Today I’m starting a new series called “Five Minute Earrings”. Although I’ve made five minute earrings before using twist bails, these ones don’t use any special tricks to make them quick.  I just wanted to showcase how truly quick and easy it can be to make your own jewellery, starting with earrings.

Even though these earrings are super quick and easy to make, it doesn’t take away from the fact that they look stunning.

Let’s take a look at what you’ll need to make them.

Materials

Here’s what you will need to make these earrings:

• 11x8mm Tibetan Silver Barrel Bead x 2
• 4x1mm Silver Beaded Rondelle x 4
• 6mm Silver Flower Bead Caps x4
• 5cm Silver Headpins x2
• ‍3mm Silver Ball Beads x6
• 19mm Silver Twist Earhooks x2
• 10mm Silver Jump Rings x2
• 4mm Silver Jump Rings x2
• Red Lampwork Glass Silver Foil Beads x2

Tools

• ‍Chain nose pliers (x2 optional)
• Flush cutters
• Round nose pliers

Instructions

Threading the Beads

Lay the beads on the mat in the following order:

Thread them onto the headpin in that order.

Make the Wrapped Loop

Next we’re going to make a wrapped loop to attach the jump rings and barrel bead. If you haven’t made a wire wrapped loop before I suggest you watch my video - how to make a wire wrapped loop.

Place your chain nose pliers at the top of the beads.  Make sure all the beads are close together by pushing on the end on the head pin.

Bend the wire with your thumb over the pliers to make a right angled bend.

Tuck your round nose pliers into the bend at about 1cm from the end of the pliers.

Wrap the wire around the pliers readjusting as needed. Wrap the tail around the stem.

Trim off the end and tuck it in so there’s no sharp point.

Adding the Jump Rings

Open the 4mm jump ring and thread on the loop you have just made. Close the jump ring.

If you haven’t used jump rings before you can watch this video.

Open the 10mm Jump Ring and thread on the 4mm jump ring and the barrel portion of the barrel bead. Close the jump ring.

Adding the Earwire

Open the loop of the earwire and thread on the loop of the barrel bead.  Close the loop.

Now repeat the whole process to make the other earring.
